Say it ain't so!!! @LupeFiasco contemplates retirement to be a writer. Drops **NEW** song "American Terrorist pt2"

Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter and began to talk retirement. LISTEN TO AMERICAN TERRORIST PT2 AT THE BOTTOM.

I know a lot of rappers in the history of hip hop have retired only to resurface and continue their careers. Like Lupe, many of them begin retirement talks with an album ironically right around the corner for release. However, Lupe Fiasco is the only rapper I believe when he says he's retiring. His struggles within the industry are infamous (Atlantic Records you really do suck ass) and his love for politics and literature are genuine. His personality is eccentric enough to actually allow him to retire from rap AND STAY RETIRED. Still, his new album Food and Liquor 2 is weeks away from release so I still look at his retirement talk sideways. With Lupe, who knows???

As a fan, I remind Lupe of 4 points:
1) You can still make music for people to listen to and enjoy in retirement. You don't have to be paid to create beautiful art for the world to enjoy.

2) You still owe us LupEND....YOU PROMISED!!!!!

3) Your contractual obligations to Atlantic Records are almost completed. I don't know if you've heard but the indie label route is SWWWWWEEEEEEET. The money you make is yours. The art you create is yours. There is no pressure to make records you don't want to. Your boss is pretty much a die hard fan. #POW

4) Come On Son!!! Yesterday, Forbes just gave you a shout out on their Hip Hop Cash Kings list. You made $5 million son....let me be Lupe Fiasco then if you don't want to be.

In the midst of all this retirement talk, Lupe left us with an appetizer to hold us over until Food and Liquor 2 drops September 25.

Seriously @LupeFiasco just drop it already!!! INTERVIEW w/ @MannieFresh

In 2006, I was priviledged enough to break open the plastic on this new rapper named Lupe Fiasco. I remember it like it was yesterday. The nostalgia is one of those special HipHop moments that only a HipHop head can relate to. Not to be corny, but, it was literally a beautiful bright sunny day in September and I was cruising up I-95 with the sunroof open. I was on my way to a studio in Newport News, VA with my two homies Irv and Tim. That day we had racked up on all the road-trip essentials; chips, soda, bag of weed, phillies and two CD's to ride out to. One was poet Black Ice's Death of Willie Lynch and the other was this new skateboard kid named Lupe.

I popped it in AFTER Black Ice's album believing the poet would be doper than the lil Kick Push nigga. Well, you know the rest if you are a Lupe fan. The shit was phenomenal!!! It was probably the dopest album to come out that year. The trip was a 3.5 hour drive. It took us 2 to 2.5 hours to finish listening to Food And Liquor. There was just THAT MUCH rewind value on the album. I was a fan ever since!

Fast-forward 6 years later! I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF LUPE FIASCO!!! My feeling stem not from his music. That shit is still dope, whenever it finally drops (except Lasers uggghhh). But every time you log on to a blogsite or HipHop news site, Lupe is on a soapbox preaching about how commercialized the industry has become. How radio sucks! How main stream media sucks! How record labels suck! I miss when Lupe KNEW those elements of the business sucked and just put out dope music anyway.

CHECK HIM OUT COMPLAINING TO MANNIE FRESH

I guess I'm just mad because the Lupe press coverage is not matched by Lupe music. I get more of these "record labels and radio suck" interviews than actual Lupe songs. Well, at least Food And Liquor 2 will be a double album.

@LupeFiasco says 97% of Hip Hop is terrible. Do you agree???

While making an appearance on Power 105's The Breakfast Club, Lupe Fiasco was asked what he thought about the current state of Hip Hop. Lupe revealed that he thought 97% of Hip Hop is terrible. The dude seems to intelligent, though he often comes off like a pseudo-intellectual (which may be a sign of genius), so I would hope he has a criteria for coming up with that number. Even if he does have an INTELLIGENT criteria to reach that opinion, come on son, 97???

Before you Hip Hop heads go all revolutionary-in-the-mouth, I have to point out that if radio and mainstream media is your gauge for judging Hip Hop's standards you are missing the forest for the trees. I'll be the first to agree with any Hip Hop purist who says mainstream radio does zilch, zero, nada to promote the artist value of Hip Hop culture. What do you expect??? Radio is subject to corporate interest and their goal is to generate profit above all. Business is business. So by even beginning to think that the state of our culture is gauged by mainstream media you sound silly! The magazines, the television platforms like MTV, BET, and VH1 all owe its existence to corporate interest not cultural enrichment and artistic enlightenment. I am assuming that YOU (the individual reader) don't get your Hip Hop from any of these sources.

Let me be an example of what I mean! My playlist, cd player, ipad, ipod and laptop files read like this: Nas, Curren$y, Slaughterhouse, J.Cole, Kanye West, Big KRIT, Tech N9ne, Pusha T, Brother Ali, 2Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, Jadakiss, 9th Wonder, Rick Ross, old school Outkast, old school Jay-Z, old school AZ and 5 artists you haven't heard of yet because they don't have deals but they do have microphones set up in the closet. While the mainstream is clearly represented in my listening choice, most of my list consist of guys who don't chase platinum records or BDS spins. The fact that 5 artists you have never heard of (Saga, MT, Profile, Wally Clarke, Space Mane) are on my list should stick out as the major reason the majority of Hip Hop isn't terrible. These artist represent the willingness of Hip Hop to make personal choices in music without influence from radio and main stream media. BTW, Saga may be the illest MC on that entire list!!! He has no desire to be a world famous rapper but, he drops new music all the time from the comforts of his mic in the closet. You'll never ever ever hear him on 106 & Park!

The point is that THE MAJORITY of Hip Hop is just like me. They have their guilty pleasures like Rick Ross and 2Chainz that they listen to daily. I still keep up with radio because I stay abreast of what's popular as well as what's healthy food for thought. But, what I hear on the radio is only a fraction of the depth of Hip Hop. Lupe is judging Hip Hop based on the criteria of popularity. SHAME ON YOU LUPE! Artist like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Drake and 2Chainz are the popular kids but they hardly make up 97% of the culture. Fact is 97% of the culture doesn't have gold and platinum plaques. 97% of the culture doesn't have a record spinning in the top 20 of any market. 97% of the culture doesn't perform at the Billboard Awards.

Let me give you a list of artist gatlin-gun style: Curren$y, Big KRIT, Tech N9ne, Brother Ali, REKS, Jon Connor, Talib Kweli (still), Nipsey Hussle, La Coka Nostra, Sean Price, Skyzoo, Madchild, Little Brother members (reunion now please), Action Bronson, Max B (too wavy to be locked up), Trae The Truth, Chinx Drugs, Arsenal, Fashawn, Childish Gambino, Killer Mike, Mistah F.A.B, Vado, Schoolboy Q, Pill, Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse, J.Cole, Jean Grae, etc

My point is that our culture is rooted in tradition and artistry. That has not changed! I understand Lupe's frustration. Our foundation does not match our steeple. But, Hip Hop has reached a point where what's popular isn't what defines us. We live in an age where we get to customize our own playlist and listen to whatever we think is hot. Lupe is caught up in the industry. His frustrations with the industry lead him to believe that the industry set precedent and standard. UH UH NO WAY! The street STILL hold reins over the industry. Creative minds who can't be digested whole by the industry often reach pass the money machines of corporation and grab our attention long enough to score hit records. Ironically, Lupe is one such artist. Perhaps the problem with Lupe is that he is tired of staring at the popular kids table and not being able to sit there. Well, let Lupe know he should be in no rush to sit at a symbolic BDS spins table with YMCMB and MMG. Remain apart of the foundation.

Though I am sure Lupe will change his tune once he gets out of his contract and goes indie. I wish rappers could go all Carmelo Anthony on a record and get out of their current contractual arrangements. I digress! Tell Lupe 97% of Hip Hop isn't terrible. Its just that the top 3% make us look like idiots because they get %75 of the wealth. Hmmmmmmmm looks like I found a fundamental principle Lupe and Obama can agree on. Lupe is apart of 97% of Hip Hop. And that's a good thing!

*VIDEO* @LupeFiasco - "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)

Pete Rock is just going to have to be mad. Dope is dope and the new video for Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free) is just as dope as the lyrics Lupe Fiasco drops on the song. Its been 6 years since Food and Liquor introduced the world to a ferocious lyrical nerd equipped with concept and flow. In most purist eyes, the album is nothing short of a classic! Since his debut, Lupe has endured label beef, album pushbacks and even a Bill O'Reilly interview. He has even flirted with commercial success a few times, a feat unheard of for a rapper of his ability and content. The last thing he ever expected to run into was critical disapproval.

Enter Lasers! The Chi-town rapper's third album was highly anticipated, sadly delayed and sounded very much compromised. Lupe fans were puzzled at how.....well....average the album sounded. Especially after the superb performances placed on previous mixtape efforts leading up to the album. Not to let lackluster performances and label politics hold him back, Lu promised fans a quick return to form in the form of a classic album done his way and minus industry tampering. So he returned to the space that helped create Food and Liquor and began recording Food and Liquor 2. With anticipation building, he dropped the song Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free) to another unexpected response. The song sampled the horns from T.R.O.Y, a classic Hip Hop ode to a fallen friend by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Pete Rock was not pleased with the sample and voiced his displeasure via interviews and social media. Pete Rock and Lupe went back and forth about Pete not being involved in the process. Lupe had obtained all legal permission needed in order to use the sample but, the absence of Pete Rock's assistance in the project soured the legendary producer. Drama aside, Lupe has decided to move forward with the lyrically and socially charged song. He has now decided to drop the visuals to Around My Way...

Tell us what you think of the video. Are you checking for Food and Liquor 2?

LUPE FIASCO x SKYLAR GREY x "Words I Never Said"

Killed me softly with this track...

"WORDS I NEVER SAID"

#S/O TO @badskinwavyhair of my favorite affiliate Blog Site Notoriety Being a Nobody

iSUPPORT Lupe Fiasco

The first time I saw this cover it sent chills down my spine. The 2nd time, made me want to officially assign my blog to the promotion and countdown to his album release. Why? Because I can. lol Because its my blogsite. Most importantly, because if you ask me whats the hottest newest mainstream song out or artist out and I wouldn't specifically know because I surround myself with Indie artists. My answer would probably not be a mainstream artist.

Today a producer and songwriter and fellow Aries affiliate out of Charlotte, NC helped inspire the support for this article and many more to come. Byron Crite ( FOLLOW HIM @songdesigner ), is CEO/President and Founder of Miscellaneous Productions Inc. He had posted the album cover and it caught my eye soon as it hit my News Feed on Facebook.

You know, I got so caught up in promoting artist music, making sure I give everybody some shine and a little free press that I forgot the purpose for this website: To express my opinions as a young, single black female in the Underground Music Industry while supporting the artists that support me and slapping "Wet Set!" on everything. lol

This website promotes and supports many indie artists and Underground DJs and Producers. If I am to promote or support ANY mainstream music/artist, it would be Kanye West. Today i'm adding Lupe Fiasco onto that short roster. He's always been a favorite but this album cover below, visually kills me softly with its artwork.
