The 1st New Ish Friday was in March 2011. The Sarcastic Renegade and Wet Set have been apart of this long running event since day one and although its sad to see this be the last one, we have some GREAT memories of one of Carolina's longest running, high attendance indie artist showcases. Ive coordinated and managed a showcase before and this experience, for me, was a first to see it on the other side. As an attendee.
It was one of the best and few places you could go and network with industry Facebook and Twitter friends and one of the few places you could go and everybody would know your name. It was like the Underground Music's "Cheers". Whether you referred to the venue to its old name, Leniche's, or the current new name, "Shark Bar", all you had to say was New Ish Friday because 3923 New Bern Ave was a "fav" on the GPS.
Everybody may have their own reason as to why this event was started but from the mouth of my good friend Marc Law, "NEW ISHH FRIDAYZ WAS STARTED BECAUSE I DIDNT LIKE THE WAY SOME OF THE LOCAL SHOWCASES/OPEN MICS WERE BEING HELD... SO WE DECIDED TO DO OUR OWN... THE NAME CAME FROM A TRACK I HAD JUST RECORDED- CALLED 'NEW ISHH'"
So join us THIS FRIDAY for the last New Ish Friday at the Shark Bar in Raleigh. Below are some throwbacks from my visits to New Ish.
