HIP HOP IS ALIVE
There is definitely enough record label-generated material out there for radio heads and high schoolers to get into this summer. A lot of the songs out are full of energy and fun which is quite appropriate for the summertime. Kanye and MMG are putting out quality music that you can cruise through the hood and bump. 2 Chainz is enjoying his moment in the sun while dropping feature after feature. Young Money is, well, Young Money. But still, if you turn the radio off and stay away from nightclubs, you might will find a lot of beautiful Hip Hop out there being made at the same break neck pace as the commercially viable material you hear all the time. Yep, there is some dope Hip Hop being made right under your nose. Here a few songs that dropped recently that I love:
NAS - BYE BABY
The Queensbridge rapper drops a soulful ode to his divorce from singer Kelis. He opens his soul and personal life up to the public over a sample from Guy's Goodbye Love. Produced by long time Nas collaborator, Salaam Remi, and Drake's beatmaker Noah "40" Shebib, the song is just the type of real Hip Hop Nas fans expect.

CROOKED I - DANCIN' ON YOUR GRAVE (f: BREVI)
If you haven't heard by now, EVERY member of Slaughterhouse is an animal, a beast, a monster, a fucking gorilla, a savage when it comes to the microphone. That includes Crooked I, the west coast representer in the group. He lays down some of the hardest bars of 2012 on wall pounding drums. I won't gas you with any commentary. JUST LISTEN TO THE FIRE!

CHILDISH GAMBINO - BODY (f:PRODIGY)
Donald Glover is definitely making a name for himself in music. Donald Glover, the actor/writer for NBC shows Community and 30 Rock, is making pure dope Hip Hop. He released a free album download on his website www.iamdonald.com on July 4th. His latest song features Mobb Deep's Prodigy over an erie beat that reminds you of something off Mobb's Hell On Earth album. I can't believe this song was a leftover from his free album, Royalty.

Curren$y - WOH (f: Styles P)
Curren$y is fast becoming one of my favorite music makers. He has a smooth float on air approach to his music that makes you want to relax, roll up and enjoy the day away. WOH is a collaboration with D-Block general Styles P on which they deliver fire over slap drums and another float on air type beat. It is a song from off Cigarette Boats, the newly released EP collaboration between Curren$y and producer Harry Fraud.

Wiz Khalifa - Different Cloth(f:Busta Rhymes)
The kid from Pittsburg has come a long way. We watched him grind mixtapes on his owne underground. Now, he is nothing short of an international superstar. Yet, Wiz still makes good raw smoked out Hip Hop. The money has done nothing but help him upgrade his formula. On Different Cloth he joins Busta Rhymes for a smooth grove of a smoke session recorded on wax.
